September 2007

Why would anyone want to spend three weeks in Thailand? How about 27 very good reasons. The reasons are 6 guys and 21 gals. These courageous 21 to 32 year olds and one very brave 47 year old woman are going to Thailand on the first leg of the September 2007 World Race.

What will I do in Thailand? I will be an onsite resource for the four September 2007 World Race leaders and for their teams. As the ‘racers’ begin eleven months of traveling to the countries that will be on their itineraries, I will offer presence to them.

September 2007 World Racers

Why would someone want to go on a World Race? A new paradigm is morphing in the churches in North America where young people have a desire to live out every day – all day, their Christianity. These young people want to have a transformed life so that they can transform other lives.

The World Race venue allows for church to be practiced in community. Those who are going on a World Race will minister, eat, sleep, fellowship, play, etc. together. They will by living together learn how to communicate what church is in their host countries.

The intense challenges inherent in a World Race will have the participants looking to their Father God for help. They will become attuned to hearing God’s still small voice. There is an expectation that their relationship with their Father God will be transformed as they begin to understand His unconditional love.

World Race values include eyeball witness reports about growing, vibrant Christian communities in underdeveloped countries and about social injustices in these same countries resulting in human trafficking, AIDS, loss of parents, etc., that will be sent to families, friends and churches via the internet, telephone and letters. The racers will bring their own worship norms into their host churches and they will carry these church’s worship norms and what is happening in these churches to other churches – including their home church. Wherever the racers go, there will be people encouraged, people prayed over and people making decisions of faith.

It costs $13,000 to go on a World Race. The budget for room and board is $6 a day. Versus putting a strain on the World Race budget to cover the cost for me to go to Thailand and for Nancy and me to go to the four countries where World Race debriefs are tentatively scheduled, we would like to be able to cover with our funds what it will cost for us to go to each site. My roundtrip ticket to Thailand is $1248. The first scheduled debrief is in Hong Kong. It is now tentatively scheduled to happen right after Christmas.

We continue to be very grateful for your desire to partner with us. Your faithful prayers have been instrumental in opening up the opportunity that we have in what we are now doing with AIM. We could not have scripted something that answers so completely the desire that we had to use the gifting, experiences, training, education, passion, etc. than what we are now doing with AIM and specifically right now with the September 2007 World Race. We would like to ask you that you make it a matter of prayer whether or not God would have you partner with us through a special gift to help cover our travel costs to come alongside the young people going on the September 2007 World Race.

If it is something that you know that God would have you do, please send your gift as you normally would – which would be into our support account, but please include a note with your gift that you want it used to defray our World Race travel costs. Thank you very much. If you would like to keep track of what is happening with the September 2007 World Race, please go to www.adventures.org and open up The World Race site. To find out who is on the September 2007 World Race team, go to the same site but open up September 2007. Thank you again for all that you have done for us.

Sincerely,

Gary and Nancy Lengkeek
